Initially, the director wanted "That 70's Show" inspired imagery. Organic and flowy, yet colorful. Once the designer run happened, the idea shifted to a much more child-like and playful. All thirty projection images are inspired by a children's storybook and pulled from some of the most iconic musicals and children's shows that the Sherman brothers helped bring to life.
This show is 54 songs all tied together with a story about family sticking together. To call it a musical revue doesn't do it justice. I implemented a double-hung system to highlight the playfulness of the musical and be able to change the atmosphere at the drop of a dime. This was my first complete and practical lighting design, so I wish that I had known to add more cues within a few songs because the tone changed midway through, but overall, I had fun experimenting with vibrant colors in both the front and down lights.
